Obituary

Jerome Jay Twibell, 86, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2021, at home.

He was born on March 10, 1935 to Lloyd and Dora Twibell of Orchard, Nebraska.

On February 2, 1961, he married Sondra Jane Humphrey of Giltner, Nebraska. Together they reared two boys, Mark and John. As newlyweds, they lived in Lincoln where he was a senior at the University of Nebraska. In August 1962, they moved to Phoenix, Arizona and resided there until 2001 when they moved to Glennville, Georgia to live closer to their sons and their families. He served as a deacon and usher at Pineview Baptist Church in Reidsville, Georgia.

Jerry enlisted in the United States Navy immediately following high school graduation and served four years as a radio operator in Japan and California. He earned his private pilot’s license in 1954.

Although the country was in a deep recession when he graduated from college, dad was recruited by General Electric in Phoenix. He moved there to start his job while Sondra and newborn baby Mark, joined him a few weeks later.

A coworker talked to Jerry about his need for salvation and he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior in 1965. His commitment to Christ and the Truth never waned and he spent his life promoting the gospel through personal testimony and gifts of time, service and support. His greatest joy was to see each of his children and grandchildren have personal relationships with Christ.

Mark and John have fond childhood memories of their father taking them on hunting trips and to Camp Perry in Ohio for the national rifle matches. They worked on cars and even rebuilt a custom 4-wheel drive pickup truck in their small garage. The boys learned a lot while holding the light!

In his retirement, Jerry finally built the workshop of his dreams after they moved to Glennville, Georgia. He quickly built up his gunsmithing business and was known as the man who could fix anything. He welded furniture and other household items designed by his daughters-in-law, built beautiful cedar chests for each of his granddaughters and taught all the grandchildren how to handle a firearm. In fact, they each have a custom-made rifle, made with love by Granddaddy.

He leaves behind to mourn, his beloved wife of 60 years, Sondra Twibell, his sons, Mark Twibell (Laurie), John Twibell (Crystal); his grandchildren, Lieutenant John Carl Twibell, Lieutenant David Twibell (Kathrine), Henry Twibell (Joanna), Katherine Lord (Matthew), Artiss Twibell, Raleigh Twibell (Esther), Annie Twibell, Amelia Twibell, Alaina Twibell and Abbi Cate Twibell; and many more friends and relatives.

He is predeceased by, his parents, Lloyd and Dora Twibell; brother, Tom Twibell; sisters, Joanne Leiding (Gordon), Barbara Mitteis (Lee) and Becky Johnson (Bob).
