Deborah "Debbie" Jean (Lewis) Armstrong

April 1, 1957 ~ April 10, 2022 (age 65)

Obituary

Deborah Jean Lewis Armstrong, “Debbie,” 65, of Buford, Georgia passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of April 10, 2022. She was born in Monroe, Louisiana on April 1, 1957 to the late Harvey “Lloyd” Lewis and late Betty Parker Lewis.  Debbie graduated from West Monroe High School in 1975 and earned her bachelor’s degree from Louisiana Tech in Speech-Language Pathology in 1979 while being a member of the Phi Mu Sorority.  Debbie had a passion for working with children and retired after 37 years as a speech pathologist in the public school systems, where most of her joy was found in working with special needs children.

Debbie’s friends and co-workers described her as a fun-loving, fiery person with an infectious laugh who would light up the room.  She could make you laugh until you were crying, and had a talent for finding humor even in the darkest moments.  She was compassionate for others and always put their needs before her own.  Debbie was a giver of her time, love, and attention as much as she was of her monetary gifts.  She loved taking care of her students and made sure they had basic needs, even birthday cakes, when they were lacking at home.

Her own home was filled with her sacrificial love for her husband and three children, Paige, Jacob, and Jessica.  She was “superwoman” and managed to do it all from carpooling her kids to every dance lesson, ball practice, and cheer competition all while having a home cooked meal on the table.  Debbie was a phenomenal cook who enjoyed making cajun cuisines.  When her grandchildren came along, she took pride in introducing them to her delicious recipes, but nothing could surpass the pride she had of being “Maw”.  Her grandchildren were her world and her dedication to being present in their lives was met in return with their immense amount of love they all have for her.

When Debbie wasn’t spending her time as “Maw,” she loved being on the water kayaking, fishing, or boating with her special group of friends.  She enjoyed a good TV mystery, listening to the oldies on the radio, and sitting on a peaceful porch outside.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but never forgotten.

Debbie is preceded in death by her beloved son, Jacob Armstrong; parents, Harvey “Lloyd” Lewis and Betty Lewis; sister, Sharon Burris and brother, “Butch” Lewis; former father-in-law, W.T. “Bill” Armstrong and former mother-in-law, Mary “Nell” Wilkinson Armstrong; former and loving husband of 30 years Jeffery “Jeff” Armstrong.  Debbie is survived by her sister, Dianne Lyons (Charlton) of Memphis, TN; daughters Paige Ewing (Michael) of Buford, GA and Jessica Curran (Liam) of Roswell, GA; grandchildren Avery and Charlotte Ewing, and Brooklyn, Tristan, and Declan Curran; and several loving in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family will be receiving guests for visitation at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 15 with the service immediately following in the chapel at 2:00 pm, services will be held at Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville, Georgia with Dr. Rick Cason and Dr. Tom R.
